EPR number by country: LUCID, IDU, BDO and the rest
What the packaging EPR number is called in each of the 27, which five countries issue none, where it must appear on invoices, and who registers twice.
There is no European EPR number. There are 27 national ones, each with its own name, its own register and its own rules about where the number has to appear. A customer who asks for "your EPR number" is asking for the number of the country they sell in, and the answer is different in every one. Here is the whole list, and the four things about it that catch people out.
What is an EPR number?
It is the number a national register gives a producer when the registration is accepted. It proves you are in the register of that country; it does not prove your packaging is compliant, and it is not a tax number. What an EPR number is, and how to apply for one covers the registration itself.
Is the EPR number the same in every EU country?
No. You register in each member state where you first make packaging available, and each one issues its own number under its own name. A German LUCID number means nothing to a Polish authority, and a BDO number means nothing to a German one.
What is the EPR number called in each country?

Which countries have no EPR register yet?
Five: Bulgaria, Ireland, Italy, Latvia and the Netherlands. In those countries the duty runs through a scheme instead — Repak in Ireland, CONAI in Italy, Verpact in the Netherlands — and there is no producer number to give, because no authority issues one. Italy's RENAP is being set up and the Dutch producer register is not live either. A supplier who quotes you a "registration number" for one of these five has quoted something else.
Where must the EPR number appear on documents?
In Poland the BDO number has to be shown on invoices, and in Malta the ERA registration number likewise. That makes those two the easiest to check: the number is already on the paperwork you hold, and it should match the register.
Which country makes you register twice?
Hungary. The producer registers with MOHU, the concession company, on its partner portal, and separately in the state waste register. One of the two is not enough, and the two are not the same system.
Can a company be compliant with no entry at all?
Yes, in Czechia. A producer whose contract with EKO-KOM covers all of its packaging is not entered in the Seznam osob — the scheme carries the entry instead. How to check a supplier's EPR number goes through what you can verify where.
Does an EU-wide EPR number exist?
Not yet. The implementing act that would set a common format for national registers was due on 12 February 2026 and has not appeared, and a central EU register is not expected before 1 January 2029. Until then, one number per country is the whole picture.
What a spreadsheet cannot do here
A spreadsheet will hold 27 numbers in a row. It will not tell you that five of those countries issue none, that Hungary needs two, or that the Czech blank is correct — and it will not notice when a register changes its name.
